(Palm Beach County, FL) — Get ready for the mane event.

Retreat Behavioral Health — a leading provider of substance abuse and mental health treatment services — is proud to announce a forthcoming special event with Horses Healing Hearts, a South Florida nonprofit which helps children whose loved ones have suffered from addiction.

On May 7th, from 10am-1pm, Retreat will join forces with Horses Healing Hearts(HHH) to host adynamic, educational experience displaying the benefits of equine therapy at their Delray Beach-based equine facility at5135 Conklin Drive, Delray Beach, FL 33484. The two organizations will also raise funds to support the HHH Children’s Prevention Program, the only one of its kind in the nation.

Equine therapy is an immersive form of patient engagement that involves interacting with and caring for horses, thereby enabling patients to resolve entrenched struggles and personal challenges through tranquil reflection and introspection.

HHH uses the evidence-based, experiential EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) Model of equine therapy, whichembraces the science that humans learn best by doing. The model prescribes a hands-on approach where clients are given the space to project and analyze their situations, make connections, and find their own solutions. Since the solutions are personally experienced in conjunction with intellectual understanding, they tend to be deeper, more profound, and longer lasting.

In concert with Horses Healing Hearts, Retreat at Palm Beach County, FL, has operated weekly equine therapy for our patients for the past two years.Equine therapy has been a key element of clinical programming at Retreat in Lancaster County, PA for the past seven years. The PA sitehas two horses, affectionately called Mickey and Mantle, which are utilized in the program.

On May 7th, community members and local professionals will have an opportunity to participate in equine therapy, while learning about how it works from Certified Addiction Professionals on the Horses Healing Hearts team. What’s more, they’ll hear directly from Retreat’s CEO and Founder, Peter Schorr, and Horses Healing Hearts’Executive Director and Founder, Liz Olszewski.

“We’re proud to partner with Horses Healing Hearts on this event,” Schorr said in a statement. “They’ve been a phenomenal asset to our patients and the local community, and we hope this event will give people insight into exactly what makes equine therapy so advantageous.”
