LGBTQ Services
At our facilities in South Florida, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, we provide a safe, caring environment for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Drug and alcohol abuse greatly affects the LGBTQ community. Research shows that sexual minorities—those who identify as gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, etc.—are more likely than those who identify as heterosexual to experience both substance use issues and mental health issues. They may also be more reluctant to seek treatment for their addiction or mental health problems due to fears of discrimination.
We Treat the Root Causes
At Retreat Behavioral Health, we believe that no individual should be denied the therapeutic resources that could help save their life. We specialize in the provision of mental health services to the LGBTQ community. Our LGBTQ inpatient treatment mental health programs are specially designed to treat everyone in the context of their lives. We address not just their substance use or their mental health difficulties, but the circumstances that led them to suffer from addiction in the first place.
Effective gay treatment centers operate under the notion that you cannot truly treat someone unless you understand the roots of their illness. While mental health and substance use problems can be attributable to factors unrelated to a patient’s sexual orientation, the life experiences of LGBTQ individuals are very closely related to the development of these issues. The LGBTQ community often experiences extreme stress and social prejudice throughout their lives due to their sexual preferences and/or gender identity, which can lead to severe levels of depression, anxiety, fear, and isolation. This leads individuals to self-medicate with the use of drugs and alcohol.
The specialized programming at our rehabilitation treatment centers in Palm Beach, Florida, South Connecticut, and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania provides gay drug rehab and a safe setting for LGBTQ individuals who are working toward recovery. Our experienced staff recognizes the unique stressors that affect those in the LGBTQ community and design personalized treatment that address each individual. In addition, our team has a strong focus on treatment for transgender individuals, among whom rates and risk factors of addiction and mental health issues are often higher than they are for other sexual minorities.
